Mission Statement

The mission of member community colleges is to provide high quality and affordable liberal arts, vocational and technical education for college learners. The purpose of the NDCCC is to foster innovation, cooperation, and ongoing development opportunities for all faculty members on our campuses. The primary focus of the NDCCC is to improve teaching and learning strategies within all disciplines.

History

The Consortium has been in existence since 1986 and received its first Bush Foundation funding for faculty development in 1987 as an initial planning grant titled "Toward Faculty Renewal," which led to the Consortium's first three-year grant titled "Student Involvement in Learning." This was the beginning of the collaborative effort among the five public two-year colleges and this effort has been strengthened each year. The NDCCC was originally known as the North Dakota Two-Year College Consortium (NDTYCC) for faculty development. Representatives met in 1987, the first academic year of operation, and set the groundwork for future Consortium activities. At that meeting representatives assessed faculty development needs and identified the priorities for faculty development. They also listed activities both common among institutions and unique to institutions, stimulated enthusiasm, held discussion for improving the teaching and learning process, and prepared the proposal, "Student Involvement in Learning," which was funded from 1988 through 1991. Those funds were renewed for another three years under the grant "Improving Teaching and Learning Through the Total Quality Improvement Process." The Consortium was awarded a second planning grant in 1994, "Bridging the Boundaries-Strengthening the Culture of Learning." That planning grant was followed by the three-year grant "Roadmap to Excellence: Celebrating Diversity Through Teaching and Learning." The Consortium received a third planning grant, "Coalescing Our Vision for Teaching and Learning by Charting New Directions for Faculty Development," in 1999.
