"Toward Faculty Renewal"
1988 - 1991
The overriding goal of the first three-year project was to improve student learning by encouraging the implementation of the "Seven Principles of Good Practice in Undergraduate Education." The grant was structured to include consortium-wide activities that met the needs common to all the two-year campuses, to create campus theme activities meeting the needs of individual campuses, and to offer mini-grants for individual faculty to pursue discipline-specific activities.
The outside evaluator reported that the outcomes involving faculty revitalization improved instructional methods, and linkages between schools succeeded. Sharon Etemad, CEO of UND-LR, echoed the evaluator's findings, "Before Bush we were so isolated, faculty members weren't even on mailing lists for conferences and workshops where they could sharpen their skills, and they didn't know any of their counterparts at the other two-year schools in the state. Now things are different. There's an excitement and hunger for new ideas."
