Faculty Professional Development Award

The focus of the Faculty Professional Development Award is to help faculty receive the training or resources needed to be more effective teachers. All faculty members (including part-time and adjuncts) are welcome to apply for an individual award ($1000.00 maximum per application) or a group award with a common goal ($2000 maximum within a campus and $5,000 maximum award across campuses per group application.) It may be your opportunity to attend a workshop or conference where the emphasis is on methods of teaching and learning rather than on specific fields of expertise. (Some exceptions may apply.)

This award is either for individual faculty development or a group approach with a common goal. For example, research into new or innovative instructional strategies, the development of new teaching materials, or utilizing resource personnel to bring state of the art methods to courses.

The basis for granting funds are:

Merit of project,

New initiative, and

To maximize faculty development opportunities as equitably as possible for the members of NDCCC, based on available funds.

Faculty should apply if the project meets one or more of the following criteria.

Encourages or investigates innovative teaching methods.
Involves collaboration with other colleagues for instructional purposes.
Fulfills an individualized need to help attain teaching excellence.
Impacts instruction and learning in the classroom.
Brings multi-cultural perspective into the classroom.
Involves cross-disciplinary or collaborative efforts within a department or campuses.

Funding will not be provided for:

Long, ongoing projects that need funding from year to year.
Non-faculty travel or expenses.
Equipment or major purchases (rental of equipment or software purchases may be allowed).
Applicant’s college or university tuition or salaries.

Instructions for 2010-2011 Faculty Professional Development Awards

Complete the application form and submit electronically.
Include brochures or information to support or explain the project.
Submit a detailed budget itemizing all costs and all revenue sources related to the project.
Devise a plan for assessing the project.
Activity must be completed by December 31, 2011.

To garner reimbursement, the applicant will submit a professional development activity report detailing objectives, activities, and assessment of the project. Reports are submitted to the NDCCC Secretary/Treasurer on or before January 31, 2012. Reports may be submitted electronically in the format of the applicant’s choice (PowerPoint, Web page, et cetera). The activity report form can be found at www.ndccc.org.

Deadlines for Individual Awards
Please submit your application electronically to the NDCCC Secretary/Treasurer by October 1, 2010 or February 14, 2011. Funds are limited and the final decision will be made by the NDCCC executive committee on or about October 7, 2010 and February 17, 2011. If you are selected to receive an award, you will be notified the week of October 11, 2010 and the week of February 22, 2011.

Deadlines for Group or Discipline Awards
Please read the group application instructions and submit one application electronically for the group to the NDCCC Secretary/Treasurer by December 1, 2010. Funds are limited and the final decision will be made by the NDCCC executive committee on or about December 9, 2010. If you are selected to receive an award, you will be notified the week of December 13, 2010.
